drawing the seasons
I’m an artist who notices, delights in and records the seasonal shifts – I draw trees, birds, flowers, my kids, with care and attention. I work both quickly in my sketchbook, and (incredibly) slowly with pencil on board back in the studio. I aim to tell some of the nature stories that connect us and ground us in the natural world. I also produce a range of cards and paper goods based on my drawings.Â
My work is about place
I live and work from our house at the edge of a woodland in the Scottish Borders. I could spend the rest of my days happily drawing the trees and the birds.
Since the moment I could hold a crayon, I’ve been in love with making drawings. It feels like magic to me.
My husband and I both grew up in the Borders. I lived elsewhere in my early twenties and never found it easy to fit in. But when I moved back to the Borders, met Ross, and became a mum, I felt a true sense of belonging for the first time. Bringing our kids up in the same landscape as we grew up in feels very special. It feels like the more deeply I get to know this place, the more there is to learn.
I keep a nature and family journal in my sketchbook, and I share the pages on my blog every month.
For me, it is all about connection:
connection with nature
and connection with each other.
My Creations
cards, postcards, sketchbooks, notebooks, calendars and prints
I love designing and selling paper goods. I love that through my cards and calendars I get to be part of those moments that make up a life well lived: celebrations, sympathies, thank yous, invitations, appointments, beginnings and ends of life.
Everything starts as a drawing – it is all analogue, I use computers as little as possible so that the cards have a proper hand-drawn feel. All my products are printed and hand-assembled in the UK. They are designed with sustainability and longevity in mind. I also sell to trade customers, if you are interested in stocking my products in your lovely shop, please do get in touch.Â
