The Wild Child Collection is a pack of 10 postcards with envelopes. Each postcard has a different drawing about childhood and nature. The pack is a celebration of climbing, splashing, exploring, swinging, collecting and noticing – all the things that children are so nautrally good at when they engage with the great outdoors. The drawings are nostalgic, prompting memories of our own childhoods, as well as being reflective about our relationships with the natural world and the central importance of those relationships. I’m intending that the contents of the pack with change over time as I continue to draw my kids, their friends, and my godsons as they grow up.
Size: The wild child postcards are A6 size (105mm x 148mm) and have lovely rounded corners. There’s plenty of space on the back for writing. Each card comes with a nice kraft brown envelope. The pack is held together with a paper belly band.
I have been exploring ideas of nature and childhood in recent years, mostly through drawing my own children (and other dear ones) as they explore their environments and their bodies out in the wild. There’s something so beautiful in how a child relates to the things around them; and there are so many feelings for us adults when we think back to our own childhoods and the memories we have of gardens and woods and rivers and play. Childhood play involves all the senses – barefoot on rock, tickly grass, the smell of tomatoes in the greenhouse, hair in the wind, sunshine on the face, the taste of fruit picked straight from the bush, a bird call. Nature memories are memories of place, home, people. Maybe memories from a time ‘nature’ wasn’t even a category we were away of, instead there were names for things – ladybird, stick, dandelion, mud, wave.
ABOUT THE PAPER GOODS
The postcards are printed on FSC certified paper stock which means it has been sourced sustainably. They are printed in the UK, then hand-assembled into packs of 10 here in the studio.
The original drawings are inspired by the little corner of the world I’m lucky enough to inhabit. I draw in pencil, biro and watercolour, filling my sketchbook with drawings and notes, and working on bigger pencil drawings back in the studio. My work is all about connection: connection with nature, connection with each other.
